IT Support in Henrico County: A Guide for Small Businesses

Updated October 22, 2026

Henrico County surrounds Richmond on the north, west, and east, and its business community reflects that range: professional and financial firms in the Innsbrook and West Broad corridors, retail and services around Short Pump, medical offices throughout the county, and industrial, distribution, and airport-related businesses in eastern Henrico near Richmond International Airport.

Office park and multi-tenant buildings

Many Henrico businesses lease space in office parks and multi-tenant buildings. A few things to check:

  • Who controls the network? Some buildings include internet or a shared network. If you share infrastructure with other tenants, ask how tenants are separated, and protect your own devices as if they’re on public Wi-Fi.
  • Your server closet. If you have on-site equipment, make sure it has adequate cooling, battery backup, and a lock.
  • Moving suites or buildings. Office moves are a common time for IT problems. Order internet service well before move-in (installs can take weeks) and plan the cutover with your IT provider.

Multiple locations

Henrico businesses often have a second location elsewhere in the region, such as a medical practice with offices on both sides of the county or a firm with a downtown satellite. Multi-site setups work best when:

  • Files and applications live in the cloud or are reachable securely from every site
  • Each site’s network is managed consistently (same firewall vendor, same Wi-Fi setup)
  • Phones are a cloud-based system that works the same everywhere
  • Every location has its own internet backup plan if it can’t operate without connectivity

Industrial and distribution businesses

Eastern Henrico’s warehouses, manufacturers, and logistics companies have needs beyond a typical office:

  • Wi-Fi coverage across large warehouse floors for scanners and mobile devices
  • Rugged devices and mobile device management
  • Shared workstations on the floor, which should still use individual logins where possible
  • Freight and payment fraud awareness for dispatch and billing staff. See our guide for trucking and logistics companies.

Security priorities

The essentials don’t change by ZIP code:

  1. MFA on every email account and remote access tool. See how to set up MFA.
  2. Tested backups with an offsite copy. See backup and disaster recovery.
  3. Phone verification for changes to payment instructions.
  4. Automatic updates and endpoint detection and response.
  5. Regular, short security awareness training.

Choosing an IT provider in Henrico

Ask providers how quickly they can reach your specific location. The West End and eastern Henrico are a long drive apart, and that matters when you need someone on site. Use our 20 questions to ask an IT provider and our guide to managed IT pricing.
